How do I connect to the WiFi? Is there guest WiFi? Is the WiFi secure?
Tech Town provides it's community access to secure, high-speed wireless internet included in the cost of all memberships (except our Virtual Mailbox offering). Connecting to our Wifi is easy, and involves just a few simple steps.
If You are a Member
You'll need to get a unique access password from our Ambassador Team at the front desk. You can either choose to create your own password, or you can have one automatically generated for you, but you will need to visit our front desk team to have one issued.
Once you have your password, either from our team telling you your password or if our network provider (Extreme Networks) emails you the password, you begin connecting. his process varies from device to device but should feel familiar to you, just as if you were connecting to your home network.
Step 1: From your device's settings, select "TechTown-Secure" from the list of available networks.
Step 2: Enter the unique password you generated earlier with our team.
Step 3: Allow the device to save the settings; this may take a little longer than a home network, though, as the authentication process is different.
You can connect up to Two computers, two tablets, two phones, and two smartwatches per member. Any devices above these thresholds will be rejected from the network. Please reach to us if you need a greater device allowance by emailing
receptionsit@techtowndetroit.org.
If You are a Guest
We do have a guest network available that is open to the public. The network does have a 12-hour time-out period, and speeds are throttled to ensure our embers get the best network service available. Guests can connect to the network just as they would a coffee shop but will select "TechTown-Publc" from their device's network settings.
Guests must agree to Access Terms & Conditions before gaining access to the network.
