Loading Dock & Freight Elevator Procedures

Loading Dock & Freight Elevator Procedures

Can I use the loading dock or loading bay for large deliveries? Do I need to reserve the loading dock? Are there policies associated to using the loading dock?

TechTown allows its private office tenants to receive special deliveries through our rear loading dock when they are available. You can schedule a time with our Facilities Time for a one-time use by emailing facilities@techtowndetroit.org. If it is available, we'll place your delivery on the dock's schedule. If your delivery is running late or needs to be rescheduled, please let us know immediately so we can make the dock available to the next member.

If you require regular access to the dock for deliveries, access is exclusive to authorized personnel who have been trained on all procedures for use. If you would like to gain access, please contact the Facilities team to book a Dock Procedures presentation (facilities@techtowndetroit.org). Attendance of this presentation is mandatory to gain access to the Dock.

Below are general policies and Procedures for using the dock:

Basic Dock Door Procedures

  1. If you open a door at the Dock, you are responsible for closing the door.
  2. If you see any door at the Dock open and unattended, please close the door.
  3. If you are sharing the Dock with someone, communicate on who will close the door.
  4. Tenants are responsible for clearing the dock of any deliveries immediately after use.
  5. Tenants are responsible for ensuring their vendors obtain proper access to and follow ALL Dock procedures.

Chemical and Biohazardous Waste Storage Rooms

  1. If you require chemical or biohazardous waste storage, please contact Facilities to attain access.
  2. We require a copy of the Third-Party Service Agreement to remove your chemical and/or biohazardous waste before storing items in any of these rooms. The Service Agreement must show a current pickup schedule along with the Term. Any changes with the Third-Party vendor must be reported to TechTown Management within 7 days.
  3. Storing items besides chemical or biohazardous waste (in each room respectively) is PROHIBITED.
  4. When and after using either of these rooms, please securely close the door behind you.

Recycling and Trash

  1. The Dock has 4 gaylords. 3 are for cardboard only. 1 is for mixed recycling, as stated on its label.
  2. Please break down all boxes, so they are completely flat, before discarding them in gaylords.
  3. Please do NOT overfill the gaylords. If the gaylords are full, please contact Facilities.
  4. Styrofoam is NOT recyclable at TechTown.
  5. Tenants are not permitted to dispose of trash into the dumpster or leave unwanted items in the Dock without prior approval from Facilities or Management. Any unauthorized use of the dumpster will incur a $250 invoice.
  6. Do NOT leave ANY items that TechTown does not recycle in the Dock. After any combination of 2 infractions in one year, tenant will be assessed fees and/or have Dock privileges revoked.
  7. TechTown recycles standard size (48”x40”x6.5”) wood pallets for $25. All other sizes cost $30 to recycle. Charges are per pallet and are invoiced monthly. Please log pallets upon drop-off at the Dock.

After-hours

  1. Before opening the Dock Door during after hours, push the “Disarm” button. Push the button again after Dock usage to rearm.
  2. Failure to disarm the Dock Door will result in false alarm. Tenants are allotted two false alarm calls per year without charge. After two false alarm calls, a fine of $50 will be invoiced to the tenant for each additional alarm that year.
  3. If you are here after hours and hosting any kind of meeting in the coworking space, we ask that you be mindful of your surroundings and clean up the space you are utilizing.  A fee will incur, based on damages.

False Alarms

  1. Propping external doors sets a false alarm. If this happens, a $50 fee will incur (per occurrence).
  2. Do not bypass the double doors (located at the loading dock) without proper authorization. A $250 fee will incur.
  3. Do not leave the loading dock door unattended. A $100 fee will incur.
  4. Do not grant access to someone with your badge that is not your guest. A $50 fee will incur (per occurrence).
  5. You can only use the freight elevator to transport bulk items. A $50 fee will incur (per occurrence).
