Office Decorating Rules & Upgrade Options

Can I decorate my office? What am I allowed to decorate with? Am I allowed to paint my office?

Hanging Artwork

If you wish to hang artwork, you can do so. It can be hung by the tenant using nails specifically used for drywall or a nail-less alternative.
Hanging artwork using nails will be considered normal wear and tear to the suite, and will not be charged against your deposit, however we do encourage our members to use alternatives to nails/screws:
  1. Removable Self-Adhesive Hooks
  2. Magnetic Art Mounting
Any pieces of artwork larger than 4 ft x 4 ft will require approval from the Ambassador Team. Please reach out to receptionist@techtowndetroit.org to schedule a time for us to visit your office and see what you intend to mount on the walls. Once approved, we may require you to work with our Facilities so they can hang your art up, which will incur a fee of $50.00. This fee covers up to two pieces of art, which helps us cover the cost of damages for more extensive mounting hardware drilled into the drywall.

Hanging Televisions

If you wish to hang a television of any size on the walls of your office, please reach out to receptionist@techtowndetroit.org to schedule a time for us to visit your office and see what you intend to mount on the walls.  All televisions must be approved before hanging. Facilities can assist members in mounting flat-screen TVs less than 32 inches, which will incur a fee of $50.00, but TVs greater than 32 inches must be installed using an external vendor or by yourself.

Painting an Office

If you wish to paint the walls of your office, TechTown will paint them for you, and you will be required to choose a paint color from the Sherwin-Williams paint swatch. You may not hire your own contractor to paint your office.

You will have the choice of painting your whole office or just specific walls to accent your office; however, multiple colors will not be permitted. Specialized paints (such as chalk, wet or dry erase) come at an additional cost to the member, and a specialized quote will need to be generated.

Our facilities team will charge you $2.75 per square foot of wall coverage within your office. This price includes labor, paint supplies, and the paint for the office. This price also serves as a pre-emptive fee for us to reinstate the space back to white upon move-out.

Please reach out to coworking@techtowndetroit.org and send your swatch code for approval.  Our Membership Manager will review the job with our facilities team and issue a service order for facilities to paint your office. The Facilities Team will then provide a date of their choosing to paint your office based on the job size.  Once the service is completed, the tenant will be issued an invoice.
